Villa Tanju is a luxurious 4-bedroom beachfront villa, located at Mengening Beach on Bali’s southwest coast. Villa Tanju Bali is comprised of a series of pavilions, leisurely spread throughout 2,400 square metres of tropical gardens, complete with a stunning 15 x 4.5 metre infinity-edge swimming pool, lotus ponds and restful water features. The simple application of timber, terrazzo, natural colours, fabrics and local materials, such as the alang-alang grass used in the construction of the roofs, is consistent throughout the property. The rugged beach is just a few metres away and the glorious views take in the distant volcanoes, dramatic coastline and neighbouring Hindu sea temple of Pura Bata Ngandang, perched on a rocky outcrop and lashed by the waves of the Indian Ocean.

The Setting
The property is entered via a traditional Balinese gate, sheltered by a thatched roof and framed in a patchwork of random rocks. A pathway leads past bulrush ponds and water spouts, and a welcome ensemble of five gamelan musicians hand-carved out of local paras stone. Stepping stones weave through the neat garden, past palm trees, dwarf lanterns, tipsy earthenware pots and sweet scented frangipani, between twin lotus ponds stocked with fish, to the 9 x 6 metre stand-alone living pavilion, which is centrally positioned, facing the ocean and bordering the pool deck. This room is completely encompassed by glass to preserve the view through the garden; the clever design allows guests to completely fold back the doors to create an open-air pavilion, cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans. Bamboo blinds on all four sides can be dropped for privacy and shade. Featuring a cool terrazzo floor, the room is tastefully furnished with deeply-cushioned sofas, a low coffee table and stylish lamps. A selection of games and magazines is provided for the use of the guests, together with a high quality music system with surround sound provided by speakers hidden in the roof.

Positioned on the seaward side, aspected west towards the magnificent sunsets, the angled swimming pool appears to overflow into the beachfront garden. A timber sundeck is located on one side, the raised position ensuring that it catches the cool sea breezes. It is furnished with four sunbeds and two umbrellas and there is also an outdoor shower. A Buddha statue rests at one end overlooking the fresh green coastal lawns, which are dotted with coconut palms. The gardens are perfect for weddings, parties and functions, and also provide a great play area for children.

Dining & Kitchen
Approached by stepping stones, the striking hexagonal dining pavilion is completely open-air, sheltered by a soaring alang-alang grass roof. It features a terrazzo floor and is furnished with a grand dining table and ten chairs; a wonderful place to enjoy a semi-alfresco dining experience within sight and sound of the sea. A guest washroom and toilet is discreetly positioned to one side.

The immaculate, well equipped western-style kitchen adjoins the dining pavilion, and is fully fitted with gas stove, oven, and numerous appliances. Here, the cook will prepare delicious meals from a menu of Indonesian and International dishes.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The master bedroom is situated within another self-contained single storey pavilion. It is entered by a pair of solid teak antique doors complemented by a teakwood floor, and is characterised by a king-size four-poster bed draped in white muslin, together with cane planter chairs, ceramic lamps and eye-catching local artwork. The bedroom is also equipped with a flat screen satellite TV with DVD/music system, together with a split air-conditioning unit and overhead ceiling fan. Large sliding glass doors open on to an outdoor verandah running the length of the bedroom. This sheltered timber deck is furnished with a huge daybed, where guests can relax and enjoy the ocean vista and the rhythmic murmur of the waves. A door leads off the bedroom into a walk-in wardrobe complete with shelves, hanging space and a safe deposit box. The romantic en-suite garden bathroom is walled for privacy and is characterised by an open-air shower on a Palimanan stand, bordered by frangipani, palms, giant taro leaves and colourful croton. The room is dominated by an oversized sunken bathtub, fashioned out of cream terrazzo. The toilet is hidden behind a half-wall, on top of which reclines a Buddha statue.

Two more air-conditioned bedrooms, each complete with an en-suite bathroom, are located on the ground floor of the main two-storey building. One room is furnished with twin beds, ideal for kids, together with desk, chair, radio/tape player, built in wardrobe, ceiling fan and safe deposit box. Antique doors open into a lush garden bathroom featuring a sheltered oval bathtub and outdoor shower, toilet and vanity unit with washbasin. Sliding glass doors lead from the bedroom onto a timber deck, which runs the full length of the front of the building and is furnished with a table and four high stools. A double bedroom is also accessed from the wooden deck, and is a mirror image of the room next door complete with adjoining garden bathroom. It is furnished with a king size bed, together with desk, chair, radio/tape player, built in wardrobe, ceiling fan and safe deposit box.

An external sweeping staircase curves up to a large wooden balcony deck with a comfortable daybed from where guests can enjoy fantastic panoramic views while chilling out with a book or a sunset cocktail. This upstairs area houses the fourth air-conditioned bedroom, complete with sliding glass doors onto the balcony. It is attractively furnished with a four-poster king-size canopied bed and a time-honoured chest of drawers, and is fitted with a ceiling fan and safe deposit box. It also features an antique wooden door that leads onto the balcony. A third door accesses a bathroom with shower cubicle, toilet and shell-veneered washbowl. The top section of the exterior wall is open to allow the fresh air to permeate together with the soothing sound of running water from the fountain in the garden below.

The study room is positioned next door to the upstairs bedroom and shares the adjoining bathroom. This room also doubles as a fifth bedroom, where guests can relax in snug, air-conditioned comfort. It is well equipped with a desk, Broadband Internet access, computer, 29-inch flat screen plasma TV with satellite reception and DVD/music system. There is also a wall unit with drawers, shelves and cupboards full of books, DVDs, music CDs, and games for the use of the guests. Glass-fronted doors open onto the verandah.

Practicalities, such as the staff quarters and laundry, are taken care of in the service area beside the entrance to the property, leaving the remainder of the villa free to enjoy the garden and ocean view. Guests also have use of a full-size tennis court and mountain bikes. With its spacious and luxurious atmosphere, Villa Tanju Bali is ideally suited for families and small groups of discerning people who want to experience the best of Bali.

The Location
Villa Tanju is located on the coast, within the beautiful agricultural belt between Kuta and Tanah Lot; an area that is home to some of the most luxurious private residences on the island. Remarkably laidback and undeveloped, this tranquil out-of-town setting offers the double attraction of being relatively close to everything that guests might need, while also offering visitors a privileged insight into the traditions of rural Bali. The nearby sweeping beach is renowned for its panoramic coastline views and legendary sunsets. It has some world-class surf breaks but the currents are strong and it can be dangerous for swimming. The trendy Seminyak area, a mere twenty minutes drive away, offers a wide choice of international restaurants, chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant shops. Convenient for most of the island’s tourist attractions, the villa is forty-five minutes’ drive from Bali’s International Airport and fifteen minutes from Nirwana Golf Course.

Villa Maridadi is a spacious 5-bedroom beachfront villa, located in the Canggu area just thirty minutes drive from the busy shops and nightlife of Seminyak and about forty-five minutes’ drive from Bali’s International Airport. Most of the island’s tourist attractions are within easy access and the villa is close to the Nirwana Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman, and the famous Tanah Lot sea temple, one of the island’s most dramatic and venerated temples.

5 Bedroom Villa = USD 800 (low season) | USD 1.300 (hi or peak season)
All rates are net / villa / night, inclusive of tax, service charge, welcome drinks on arrival and return airport transfers. Rates do not include breakfast.

The approach to the villa is along a quiet winding road through the traditional village of Mengening. The narrow streets of this pretty Balinese village are surrounded by rice fields and punctuated by holy Banyan trees. A small intersection is the venue of a fruit and vegetable market and colourful temple ceremonies are a common sight.

The Setting
The entrance to Villa Maridadi is equally time-honoured; fringed parasols flank an antique doorway and moss encrusted statues of Balinese gamelan musicians line the driveway. Built within the rice fields and boasting forty metres of beach frontage, the property is also blessed with panoramic views of the sweeping coastline and the distant volcanoes. The rugged Cemagi Beach is renowned for its world-class surf breaks, and the legendary sunsets here are among the best in Bali. The villa also overlooks the Hindu temple of Pura Bata Ngandang, perched on a rocky outcrop and lashed by the waves of the Indian Ocean.

Maridadi is set on 4050 square metres of land, and rests within a private walled garden complete with a 20 x 5 metre lap pool. The fresh green coastal lawns are dotted with fragrant frangipani trees and young palms; lobster claw heliconias hug the walls and in one corner, overlooking the beach, a raised balé pavilion is a peaceful haven for chilling out with a book or a sunset cocktail. The smooth flat gardens are perfect for weddings or functions, and also provide a great play area for children. The swimming pool with sunloungers and a timber deck reaches a depth of 2.5 metres and has a toddler’s pool at the shallow end.

Living and Dining Areas
The property is comprised of a number of separate thatched pavilions arranged symmetrically between the main two-storey building and the open living and dining pavilion. Constructed of local materials, the style is restful with a fresh cool décor; and the modern fittings and fixtures are harmonised with antique furniture from India and Indonesia. Twin lotus ponds, linked by a central pathway and wooden walkways, complete the symmetry. Designed to maximise the ocean views, the magnificent 12 x 8 metre living and dining pavilion is cooled by natural sea breezes and large pendulous ceiling fans. Tall coconut wood pillars support the traditional ‘alang alang’ grass roof, and the pavilion is furnished with carved sideboards, a day bed, local artefacts and a beautiful three metre long antique dining table that seats twelve people. Ideal for entertaining and relaxing, this ample lounge has a quality music system with surround speakers in the ceiling. A covered walkway leads to the fully equipped service kitchen, which is located within a self-contained pavilion beside another lotus pond dominated by a white marble Buddha.

There are two further living rooms for the comfort of the guests. An air-conditioned indoor study, with a cosy cushioned window seat and large floor cushions, is located next door to the master bedroom and is provided with a cable TV and VCD/DVD player. A second casual living area is located upstairs in the main building. Sliding glass windows take full advantage of the awesome views, and this sizeable games room is furnished with colorful cushions, an antique Javanese daybed, a pool table, a multi-gym, and a large flat screen cable Television with VCD and Play Station system.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The five bedrooms are all air-conditioned with the additional benefit of overhead ceiling fans and built in wardrobes. Each bedroom is at ground floor level and enjoys ocean views and the luxury of an en-suite garden bathroom. The master bedroom features teak-wood floors and sliding glass doors, which open on to an outdoor verandah furnished with daybeds and rattan chairs. Guests will be lulled to sleep by the constant murmur of the waves in an antique four-poster bed complete with diaphanous drapes. Each romantic garden bathroom is walled for privacy and is characterised an open-air shower, whimsical stone carvings and an impressive array of tropical plants and shrubs. The bathrooms adjoining the master bedroom and the two main guestrooms each have a large bathtub that is protected from the elements by a thatched roof. Following the symmetrical theme, the two guest pavilions are mirror images of each other, each one a self-contained pavilion with teak floors, sliding glass doors, a canopied bed, an open verandah, and a cream terrazzo bathroom suite within a pretty garden bathroom planted with peace lilies. The remaining two bedrooms, and their adjoining bathrooms, are located on the ground floor of the main building; each room is furnished with antique twin trundle beds, making them ideal for children.

Another large lawn to the north of the main building makes a great play area and is suitable for badminton or volley ball. A door in the wall leads to the villa’s shared tennis court, and the staff quarters are situated near the main entrance. The beach is just a few metres away from the property, bordered by a track and a low cliff, and easily accessible. The currents are strong, however, and swimming is not recommended.

The impressive Villa Jembar Lawang is completely encompassed by emerald rice fields and is situated just a few minutes walk from the rugged beach at the ancient fishing village of Canggu on Bali’s west coast. Built on 2,200 square metres of land, the property can sleep up to five couples, with four bedrooms and a spacious library that can also serve as a bedroom. The villa was designed by the acclaimed Balinese architect Popo Danes, who was recently honoured with the ‘Indonesian Institute of Architect’ award for his efforts in promoting contemporary Balinese architecture in its proper way.

5 Bedroom Villa = USD 500++ (low season) | USD 580++ / 650++ (hi / peak season)
All rates are quoted in USD, subject to 15% government tax & service charge, inclusive of refreshing welcome drinks upon arrival, daily Continental breakfast, and airport pick-up service. Long term and last minute rates are available upon request.

The style of the villa is contemporary and elegant; a group of eight or ten people can stay at the house, very comfortably, without encroaching on each others’ space. It was specifically designed to maximise the wonderful panoramic views, and offers the ultimate in private luxury for those who seek tranquillity combined with a high standard of service. Jembar Lawang means “large open door or gate” in the Javanese language. It is an indirect expression for “warm welcome”, which is substantiated by the antique statues of a Javanese wedding couple, waiting to welcome the guests as they step over the threshold.

Indeed, guests entering the property for the first time, as they cross over a small ornamental pond, will have no idea what to expect behind the large front door. They will be surprised when they find that the doorway leads into a magnificent, semi-circular, open living area supported by towering Romanesque columns and harmonised by a cool terracotta tiled floor. Looking out over the flat green lawn and furnished with antique daybeds, a large dining table, and low antique retro tables, this is an ideal place for relaxing or socialising; perfect for a party, a reception or a lazy lunch. This imposing living area is the main focus of the property and is flanked on either side by corresponding two-storey wings, which accommodate the bedroom suites, the library, the entertainment room, two additional ground floor shower rooms, the kitchen and the laundry.

There are four double bedrooms, two in each wing, boasting spacious en-suite terrazzo bathrooms. The light and airy bedrooms also feature built-in wardrobes, chunky antique furniture, timber floors, picture windows and large sliding glass doors. One of the bedrooms has a romantic four-poster bed. The downstairs bedrooms are each complemented by a terrace overlooking the garden, and the upstairs bedrooms each feature a large stone balcony with an attractive balustrade, furnished with daybeds and enhanced by pots of bougainvillea and stunning views of the rice fields. Each of the en-suite bathrooms with its terrazzo fixtures, has its own distinct characteristics; some of the bathrooms are entered by stepping through beautiful old wooden doors and feature slate paved floors, bathtubs, and ‘his and hers’ washbasins; others feature open-air garden showers surrounded by pebbles and plants, another displays a carved white Palimanan stone frieze on the exterior wall.

The library, which can also double as an additional bedroom, is situated upstairs and is furnished with an antique, hand-carved and canopied, ceremonial marriage bed. This room also features an en-suite bathroom and a large balcony; facing west, this is a place to enjoy beautiful sunsets and more of those spectacular views, accompanied by the sounds of cicadas, frogs and the distant murmur of the waves.

The entertainment room, downstairs in the opposite wing of the villa, is a cosy snug where guests can relax in air-conditioned comfort with a satellite TV, DVD player, and a ‘Bose’ surround sound system.

Bulrush ponds border the villa, and the flat lawns of the walled garden are dotted with coconut trees, but the attractive grounds of the property are deliberately not crowded with plants and shrubs, therefore ensuring that it retains the feeling of space. An 18 x 4 metre infinity edge lap pool runs the width of the garden at the top end, sheltered by a grassy terrace. A thatched ‘bale’, a traditional Balinese relaxation pavilion, is situated on one side of the pool.

The spacious kitchen, where the staff will prepare a wide range of delicious meals from an innovative menu, is fully equipped with wooden fitted cupboards and a modern stainless steel hob and oven. A laundry is situated at the back of the kitchen, and other practicalities, such as the staff quarters and the garage are taken care of in the service area beside the ample car park, leaving the remainder of the house free for the guests to enjoy.

The peaceful, coastal village of Canggu is set within a beautiful agricultural region located between Kuta and Tanah Lot. The area is home to some of the most luxurious private villas on the island, and is situated forty minutes from Bali’s International Airport and fifteen minutes from one of the best golf courses in Asia. Remarkably laidback and undeveloped, this out of town setting offers the double attraction of being relatively close to everything that guests might need, while also offering visitors a privileged insight into the traditions of rural Bali. The local population make their living from fishing and farming; ducks are herded through the rice fields, the sound of gamelan music is carried on the breeze, and religious ceremonies are an integral part of daily life. The sweeping beach is renowned for its panoramic coastline views and legendary sunsets. It has some world-class surf breaks but the currents are strong and it is dangerous for swimming. The trendy Seminyak area, a mere twenty minutes drive away, offers wide choice of international restaurants, chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant shops. The nearby Nirwana Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman, is close to the famous Tanah Lot sea temple – one of the island’s most dramatic and venerated temples, perched on a craggy wave-lashed rock just at the edge of the frothing white surf and glistening black shoreline. Guests staying at Villa Jembar Lawang will also enjoy Hotel Tugu, situated a few minutes walk away, beside the beach at Canggu. The hotel is a living museum of priceless antiques and rare cultural artifacts, and it also offers the attractions of fine dining together with the facilities of a delightful spa.

Party Facilities At Villa Jembar Lawang
The extensive open space within the secluded garden, combined with the grandiose of the living area, makes Villa Jembar Lawang the ideal tropical setting for parties, weddings, reunion celebrations, barbeques and other functions. The sizeable modern kitchen provides the staff with the equipment and facilities to cater for a wide variety of events and a large number of guests. Special events can also be coordinated by professional outside caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast at the villa, in addition to the coordination of decorations, flowers, lighting, sound systems and entertainment. A small family group can be indulged with a sizzling barbeque beside the pool at sunset. The poolside bale can be set up as an alfresco dining pavilion, guests can spill out onto the patio, and the elevated terrace behind the pool can be utilized as a stage for Balinese dance performances. The open-air living area is perfect for a cocktail reception, and the garden is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to one hundred guests. A car and driver are available at an additional cost.

Villa Gajah Putih is located in Canggu, just a twenty-minute drive from the greater Kuta/Seminyak area where the prime dining, shopping, and nightlife in Bali are located. Because of its slightly out of town setting, it has the double attraction of being relatively close to everything one might need, while being far enough away to retain a peaceful rural feel. The surrounding village is traditional Balinese, and retains large expanses of pictorial rice fields. This five-bedroom villa and its immense property has the spectacular attribute of being set directly on the beach, and the ocean view enhances the enticing attributes of this prime estate.

The villa consists of one main two-storey building set on a gorgeous sprawling property, the gardens of which have been maturing for over a decade. To the left of the building is an immense vegetable garden, large yard, and tennis court. Between the main structure and the beach is a swimming pool and indoor sauna set within a manicured lawn strewn with coconut palms and two relaxation bales. The gated villa entrance has ample parking and a security post to guard one’s interests whilst ensuring one’s safety.

Upon entering the grounds one is led down a wooden walkway past a large limestone alligator carving and elaborate water ponds. These water gardens are filled with colourful fish and flowers, and completely surround the main building. The spacious common living areas of the villa are floored in marble, and the actual structure is composed of white stucco ceilings framed by huge ironwood beams supported by matching columns, making the areas completely open-air.

The first area is the dining room, which boasts a massive teak table that seats twelve and looks out over the blooming gardens to the ocean. The fully equipped kitchen is set off to the side of the dining room and can be reached by way of a small bridge.

The first floor living room features wooden tables, rattan armchairs and couches situated so as to create two sitting areas. Artwork collected from around the Indonesian archipelago abounds, enhancing the exotic atmosphere and creating a rich ambience ideal for thoughtful repose. The air is permeated with the sounds of crashing waves and the melodious chirping of tropical birds, which inhabit the flourishing tropical gardens.

Each of the five bedrooms consists of an enclosed air-conditioned room with its own ensuite bathroom. The floors and ceilings are made of ironwood, and each of the bedrooms have at least one glass wall overlooking the ocean-side gardens of the estate. All of the ensuite bathrooms are floored and walled with caramel marble, and have screened-windows overlooking the front gardens.

Set off to the right of the living room when walking straight from the dining area is the first bedroom. The entrance to this bedroom is a traditional Balinese variegated carved doorway, which opens up to reveal two queen sized wooden canopy beds with blue cotton bedcovers from India. Delicate white mosquito nets subtly accented by white flower patterns are draped from the canopies, and reading lights are tactfully attached to the supports for convenience. The beds are separated by a blue Ikat wall hanging and a wooden bedside table upon which rests a porcelain lamp from Hong Kong. The room is flanked on one side by glass, which looks out over the living room and pool table when the white draperies are opened. A rich red Oriental carpet delightfully compliments the ironwood floors. The rest of the furniture consists of a modest wood standing wardrobe and a small writing table with matching chairs.

Within the spacious marble bathroom, a large mask of a meditative face with closed eyes hangs on the wall behind the double showers, mounted on square marble pillars. A wooden towel rack and copper elephant stand sit by the stairs leading into the sunken marble tub which can be filled for a luxurious bath.

On both sides of the doorway to the second bedroom are two majestic red lion-like sculptures. Two wooden queen sized beds with red bedcovers sit on either side of a small table and lamp, behind which is a wall of windows overlooking the garden. The front windows look out to a lily pond filled with fish and two fountains in the form of carved stone tortoises, spouting water from their mouths. Bamboo blinds can be drawn down in the bedroom for privacy. The décor in this room consists of a plain wooden wardrobe, a desk, and matching chairs, and is highlighted by a red and blue Oriental carpet, and two original antique Chinese paintings to either side of the ironwood door leading to the large robe and ensuite bathroom.

An imported pool table sits off to the side of the living room near the ironwood staircase that leads to the second storey. The stairs are divided by a small landing, over which an arched wood doorframe tactfully splits the sunlight. Balinese paintings depicting village life adorn the walls, and a swinging ironwood gate opens up to second floor. The entire second storey is floored in ironwood, and a timber-lined cathedral style alang-alang ceiling opens up the space.

To the immediate left of the staircase, one walks past another large painting and through a set of picturesque carved doors into the first master bedroom. This sublime room is walled on three sides by sliding glass windows with white linen drapes that can be drawn for privacy. An Ikat weaving hangs on the fourth wall between the entrance and the bathroom doorway. The entire bedroom is surrounded by a balcony, which overlooks the front and back gardens, and the vegetable garden to the side. The tremendous bed sits in the middle of the room with a view of the ocean, and boasts a finely dyed cotton red and white bedcover made in India in karma sutra style. Imported Oriental carpets encircle the bed, and an elaborate Chinese style sofa from Java sits off to the side. The ensuite bathroom is another symphony of marble and indulgence.

The forth bedroom overlooks the balcony to one side and offers a sea view to the other. The most notable decoration in this room is the complex mirrored wall hanging from India. As in the other bedrooms, a table and matching sitting chairs and a standing wardrobe make up the rest of the furniture.

The second master bedroom is boasts sliding glass doors overlooking the ocean open up to expose the elegantly carved canopy bed. The white bedcover is of handmade Indian lace, matched by the elegant mosquito net, hand painted in India. A unique Javanese batik wall hanging backs the bed, and depicts a forest setting with animals grazing.

The upstairs living area consists of one main sitting area overlooking a tremendous balcony upon which are set two batik-covered massage tables. Flower boxes filled with fragrant blooming plants surround the balcony. A tall table is situated behind the sitting area, upon which a projector can be put, while a large screen can be pulled down from the ironwood columns framing the scene for movie-viewing. An attractive Chinese-style canopy day bed with mirrored Indian bedcovers sits to one side, offering an enticing spot from which to enjoy the fabulous property and the view it offers its guests.

One can walk out to the actual ground of the property by way of the first floor living area, past two Chinese sofa beds and three crouching Buddha statues. The marble floor is traded for a wood-planked walkway, leading out through the flourishing gardens to the enormous swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by a wood deck, which supports numerous lounge chairs and two hammocks. To the side of the swimming pool is an alluring indoor sauna, completely made of tropical hardwood and roofed with alang-alang. One way glass ensures privacy while inside, yet allowing one to look out to the left towards the vegetable garden and tennis courts, or to the two beachside relaxation bales, ideal for meditation or yoga.

The gate leading to the beach is next to the bales. The tennis court is set on a slightly elevated plane near the beach, and the thick foliage lining the fence tactfully maintaining privacy by sufficiently obstructing the view of the villa without blocking the ocean view from the property. The manicured lawn that makes up the majority of the grounds offers an ideal setting for hosting weddings or large events.

Owing to the owner’s love of fine food, the cooks at the villa are both talented and versatile, offering guests a large choice of delectable meals to enjoy during their stay. Many of the fresh ingredients used for cooking are gathered daily from the villa’s organic vegetable and herb garden.

With its old world design and impressive hand selected collection of Asian antiques and fabrics, Villa Gajah Putih is truly one of Bali’s finest luxury estates.
