The Bedrooms
The villa provides a total of four large individual bedrooms all with an en-suite bathroom, of which three enjoy a personal outdoor deck. The fourth room has a mezzanine area with an extra double bed and offers full hotel creature comforts. Each room is air-conditioned and features a television with satellite channels, video and compact disc stereo system, safety deposit box and hairdryer.

The Living Space
A semi open-air living space is a well lit area to relax, read or just socialize with friends and family. It overlooks the tropical garden setting with background views of flourishing rice paddies and the riverside.

The Kitchen
A fully equipped kitchen designed to follow western standards incorporates a granite bench top, full size pantry for storage, refrigerator, gas stove and cooking utensils and table ware. Fresh produce and groceries can be bought locally for those guests who prepare their own cooking or have special dietary needs.

The Swimming Pool
The pool is in the unusual shape of an enormous mango and it is facilitated at the far end by a bar counter and stools to enjoy a refreshing drink while relaxing outdoors. Owner’s Suite
The Owner’s Suite is a 95 Sq. Meter (1,050 Sq. Feet) private villa. It is luxurious, lavish and modern. Your stay in the Owner’s Suite will be supremely comfortable and private.

The Owner’s Suite is physically separated from Villa Montana being located at the front of the property’s grounds on a landscaped island. Dense tropical vegetation and a Lily pond with waterfall visually and physically separate the Owner’s Suite from Villa Montana. The Owner’s Suite is very private and although close to the main entrance of Villa Montana, it feels quite removed from the main villa assuring your privacy. While the main villa offers an Ayung River Valley view, the Owner’s Suite has a rice field view from the study and a view of the Lily pond and waterfall from the living room.

The Owner’s Suite is ideally suited for two couples who wish to rent Villa Montana together. Both couples can enjoy the common areas of the main villa whilst the Owner’s Suite is separated from the main house allowing both couples a high degree of privacy when desired.

The Location
Villa Montana is located 30 minutes (20 KM or 12 Miles) north of the center of Ubud in the small village of Kerta. Kerta is rural, beautifully pristine and largely untouched by tourism. Like many others, we fell in love with the ‘Island of the Gods’ and her people and feel very privileged to have been able to lease from the local owners, the land on which to build this peaceful haven.

The Location
Villa Awang Awang is a 50 minutes drive from the airport and is situated in the cool highlands 5km from Ubud – famous for its fine art galleries, restaurants and rich cultural life. The 10 minute drive is through stunning scenery of lush ricefields, mountains and the sacred volcano Gunung Agung towering in the distance.

The House
The villa is designed by Balinese architect Ir. Ida Bagus Wiadnyana according to ancient traditions with the correct alignments toward the Holy Mountain. Traditional materials are used throughout to harmonize with the environment – alang alang thatched roofing, hand-made terracotta floor-tiles, stone and marble, all crafted by local artists. The house is cooled by fans and natural cross breezes over water gardens. Entry is via the traditional Balinese gate-way protected by stone guardians and along a garden path through tranquil lotus and water-lily filled fish ponds. Antique Javanese doors open onto the main living area with its soaring alang alang roof and spectacular views from the open terrace.

Bedrooms
Antique Javanese doors open from the living area to three bedrooms. The main bedroom contains a queen-sized bed made from old teak wood and an antique Javanese batik table. A dressing room leads to the marble bathroom and outdoor garden shower. The second bedroom has an antique Javanese queen-sized bed while the third contains two single beds. A large terrazzo and marble bathroom with a deep tub, outdoor shower and double vanity is shared between the two rooms.

Lower Level
Stairs lead down to the open dining-area, with views across the lush valley. The dining table is constructed from sections of an antique Javanese house and comfortably seats up to 10. The kitchen has granite bench-tops and is well equipped with a refrigerator, oven, gas cook-top and modern appliances and utensils. Antique Javanese doors lead to the fourth bedroom which contains a queen-sized bed and a marble/terrazzo en-suite. Sliding glass doors open onto the terrace.

Bottom Level
Steps lead down to the sun-deck and the infinity edge swimming pool with its stunning backdrop of tropical forest.

Furnishings
The house contains many unique pieces of antique furniture from Java and Lombok and is decorated with traditional weavings, carvings, statues and antique shadow puppets. There is a television, CD player, VCR, DVD and a small collection of CD’S and books.

Night Life
World-famous music and dance performances, jazz cafes and fine restaurants are just 10 minutes away – at the villa we can only offer you the sounds of nature, the cascading river, frogs croaking, crickets chirping and the scent of frangipani and night jasmine. Due to the open plan of the house, you may see the glimmer of a fire-fly, hear the call of our beautiful blue and pink spotted Tokay who resides in the roof or receive the occasional visit from a frog. If you are not ‘creature-friendly’ this may not be the place for you.

The Village and Staff
The villa is part of the village of Melayang and our guests are always warmly welcomed at the many temple ceremonies. Staff can assist you with the sarong and sash required to attend ceremonies. As in all Balinese houses, the Gods have their home within our home. Every morning our local priest presents offerings to the Gods both inside the house and at the various house temples in the garden. All our staff are from Melayang or the adjacent village of Bintang Kuning, (Yellow Star.) They are also accomplished carvers, painters and musicians.

Elegant teak furniture is complemented by clean lines, natural colours and local artwork. A sizeable, open-air lounge and dining terrace overhangs the jungle, creating a real feeling of space. Villa Alamanda presents tropical living at its best.

The property is built on the side of a hill; the living area and bedrooms are all on the same level with steps leading down into the garden. A large gate opens onto a paved parking area, where indigenous ‘serai’ stone walls portray a jigsaw of shapes. Timeworn statues of comical characters greet the guests as they step into the cool interior of the villa through a set of antique double doors. Inside, the hallway extends towards a T-shaped wooden terrace. Furnished with antiques, this breezy open-air living area runs the length of the house and boasts a delightful dining section that just out over the tranquil gardens as they tumble into the steep ravine.

The garden and pool area provide the perfect spot for relaxation. The garden is equipped with a large bale with plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the afternoons in luxurious style. The garden area is large enough for children play or for you to entertain friends.

Villa Alamanda is located in Ubud
An hour and fifteen minutes’ drive from Ngurah Rai international airport, Ubud is Bali’s centre for fine arts, dance and music; while the surrounding villages are home to Bali’s most accomplished painters, dancers, musicians and carvers. This remarkable town is encompassed by magnificent terraced rice fields, rivers, traditional villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples and palaces. It is located 300 metres above sea level in the foothills of the central mountain range; this gives it a fresher, more pleasant climate than the southern coastal regions.

The numerous art galleries in Ubud feature traditional and modern work; the museums showcase the island’s rich history, and the shops and the market stalls sell handicrafts, jewellery, woodcarvings, textiles, paintings and antiques. There are many, well-presented, cultural performances staged in the town, in particular the Hindu epic, the Ramayana; also the Kecak dance, the fire dance, the monkey dance and the Legong dance. The countryside around Ubud is particularly beautiful, with an abundance of trails offering memorable walks through the peaceful rice fields. The location is convenient for tours all over the island and is only a forty-minute drive from the coast.

Accommodations
Each of the four bedrooms features red-hued hardwood floors, double sliding glass and louvre doors that open onto the terrace, en-suite bathrooms, fitted wardrobes and safety deposit boxes.

The ‘Master Bedroom‘ is furnished in a contemporary style, enhanced by a bell jar ceiling lantern, Indonesian artefacts and paintings by local artists. Louvre doors lead into a dressing room, fitted with a chunky marble washbasin and teak cabinets and adjacent to the bathroom, with its marble bathtub and shower. The glassless windows in the bathroom allow the cool breezes to permeate, and provide lovely views of the main garden area and swimming pool bordering the river valley.

The ‘Red Room‘ is characterised by red accessories such as the lamps and paintings; and the ‘Cinnamon Room’ by the spicy-scented cinnamon stick arrangement in the vase above the bed. Both of these bedrooms feature a private garden bathroom with a marble bathtub surrounded by walls and leafy shrubs.

A separate thatched pavilion houses the ‘Garden Suite‘, a cosy bedroom that also doubles as air-conditioned lounge containing shelves of DVDs and books. The Garden Suite features an en-suite garden bathroom with a canopied bathtub.

A fully-equipped kitchen is behind the Garden Suite and is accessible from the car-parking area. There is so much attention to detail; even the water tower is decorated with fanciful carved flowers, dragonflies and birds.

An arched gateway with rustic Balinese doors marks the entrance to the beautiful garden, accessed by a dramatic flight of seventeen stone steps leading down from the car-park level. The garden is shaded by verdant jungle foliage and filled with an abundance of brightly coloured, sweet-scented tropical flowers and plants. A gnarled frangipani tree overhangs the enticing swimming pool; the water appears to cascade over the curved infinity edge into the backdrop of banana plants, bamboo, and towering coconut palms. A large relaxation gazebo, known as a ‘Bale Bengong’, is situated next to the pool and offers the comfort of cushioned daybeds. Sunloungers are positioned on the white Palimanan stone patio; hand-carved paras stone statues and garden lamps create a romantic ambience. The constant sound of the fast flowing Petanu River, as it carves its way through the steep gorge below, is accompanied by the melody of birdsong and cicadas.

Prominent features of the house are its large open-air living room opening on the pool deck, providing an easy transition from indoors to out. Its large freeform swimming pool has an eye-catching shape, emphasizing and reinforcing the minimalist features of the villa. The décor is funky yet stylish, pulling a mix of elements together into a modern and youthful combination.

The two buildings feature a mix of stone, wood and marble flooring. High ceilings grace all the rooms with the focus of the complex being inwards toward the swimming pool.
